Hormone Treatment for Cancer
August 11th, 2008With the recent development of the medical science, it is evident that hormone treatment can provide an effective solution to the cancer. Hormone treatment has become one of the major modes of cancer treatments, other that the two other modes of treatment for carcinoma, such as the targeted medicine therapy with biotheraputics and cytotoxic chemotherapy.
The HGH therapy pertaining to cancer is done by manipulating the human endocrine system by administering exogenous amount of specific hormones, especially the steroid based hormones or such medicine that trigger the production these types of hormones. These medicines are known as hormone antagonists.
The steroid based hormones are potent drivers of genetic appearance in some of the cancer cells. By altering the activity levels of these hormones, the growth of the cancer cells can be controlled and slowly they can be deprived of the growth. Eventually the cancer cells die due to restricted growth. This way the growth of the carcinoma can be altered. Removing endocrine glands with the help of surgery, like in oophorectomy and orchiectomy can be an effective method of hormone treatment of cancer.
Human growth hormone therapy can be used for different types of hormonally reactive tissues based cancers. These types of cancers are carcinoma of the prostate, breast carcinoma, adrenal cortex cancer, carcinoma of the endometrium. Hormone Treatment can also be used for treating paraneoplastic syndromes and syndromes related to chemotherapy. The discriminatory estrogen reaction modulator, known as tamoxifen is one of the most common hormone treatments pertaining to breast cancer.
